About CMC

The University of Cambodia established the “College of Media and Communications (CMC) in order to respond to the needs and demands of students, the labor market, as well as the trends of higher education, and diversify its Bachelor’s Degree Programs.  Approved officially by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS); (Prakas No.689) on March 10, 2015, the CMC hopes to train and educate students in the areas of media and communications, which are currently thriving in Cambodia. Link to Southeast Asia Television and Radio Stations, the CMC has best supporting facilities for faculties and students to learn and gain practical experience in the fields of media and communications.  

Vision

  • To provide academic excellence in theoretical and practical training in modern mass media in the context of  a broader education in current affairs and related fields as part of a number of different Bachelor’s programs.
  • To produce graduates with knowledge and skills which are most suitable to labor-market and needs for the social and economic development of Cambodia.

Mission

The College of Media and Communications aims to prepare students to be productive, creative and responsible global citizens by providing theoretical, personal, professional, and practical tools for them to pursue meaningful careers.  The College acts as a center of teaching excellence through the encouraging logical and critical thinking, including by adapting and applying emerging technologies and approaches to enhance less formalized, more interactive classroom instruction.

  • To provide real knowledge and skills to graduates who can have multiple opportunities in the job market and society.
  • To teach students to be more open-minded and to be able to use their talents together with modern technology to create or invent something which is useful for the public and country as a whole.
  • Produce graduates who do not only become good human resources for the nation, but also can compete with region and international community in the job market.

1. What is media?

It is the communication channels through which news, entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages are disseminated. Media includes every broadcasting and narrowcasting medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax, and internet.

2. What is communications?

Communications is sending and receiving information between two or more people. The person sending the message is referred to as the sender, while the person receiving the information is called the receiver. The information conveyed can include facts, ideas, concepts, opinions, beliefs, attitudes, instructions and even emotions.

3. Why I should study “Media and Communications”?

It is a truly contemporary subject which is relevant to all students’ lives. The media saturates everything we do in the developed society. It equips students the tools to analyze, critique the media and afford them the chance to see the ways in which the media pervades their lives and literacy skills. Students will be motivated, happy to write detailed critiques of the media in a way many are not.

Media Studies involves students to be able to produce their own films, writing their own newspapers, setting up their own websites, creating their own music videos. It's extremely hands-on. They can interact with modern technology in lots of ways, using all the customary IT programs such as word-processing and presentation software as well as video and sound editing software.

It is intellectually challenging. Many people who have not studied the subject don't realize that it has a thorough grounding in theory.

4. What is the English language requirement for studying at CMC?

Since the course is taken in either Khmer Track or English track, the English language requirement for English Track is needed to a minimum standard set by UC. And for Khmer track with a minimum of able to read and write basic English for textbooks. Communication and lecturing in class will be conducted in Khmer language.

6. Where can I do internship after my graduation?

Students are able to get experiences by landing the great internship opportunity at the SEATV and SEA Radio which could offer the students even before they graduate. Besides, we have many networks to send students to do the internship with NGOs, partners and companies.

7. Can I apply for potential job vacancy at The University of Cambodia after my graduation?

Yes, even you are in your final year of study, you may submit applications for any available intern positions at UC. Later upon finishing the internship period and performance appraisal, unless any individuals wish, you will be selected/recruited to any available position deemed fitted to your ability and qualifications.
